October 26, 2016 - Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District is pleased to announce a Forest & Air Workshop

The workshop, held November 10th, 2016 in Mammoth Lakes, will focus on the relationship between forest health, wildland fires and the impacts to air quality.

June 30, 2016 - EPA Gives National Award to Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District for Owens Lake Project

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded its 2016 Clean Air Excellence Award for Regulatory and Policy Innovations to the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District. EPA recognized the Great Basin for its historic achievement to control air pollution from the dried Owens Lake bed in California, the largest source of particulate air pollution in the United States.

April 13, 2016 - Historic Plan for Clean Air Approved by Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District

The Governing Board of the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District approved an innovative State Implementation Plan to control particulate air pollution and bring the Owens Valley into compliance with air quality standards for the first time.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has officially designated the Town of Mammoth Lakes as an attainment area for the federal air quality standard for particulate matter.

June 30, 2015 - Court Upholds Approval of Alternative Energy Project

Today, the Mono County Superior Court released its decision for the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District (Great Basin) to uphold its conditional approval for a new geothermal project by Ormat located in the Casa Diablo area of the Inyo National Forest.

Pollution Control Project at Owens Lake

On December 30, 2014, in a historic decision regarding the diversion of the Owens River to the City of Los Angeles, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Shelleyanne Chang approved a stipulated judgment against the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power requiring completion of the nation's largest particulate air pollution control project on the dried Owens Lake bed.
